There will be blood… X-Topia Cult Film Night

The X-topia Cult Film Night of the Fem Fest will highlight some amazing underground filmmakers who work with themes of Dystopia and Body Horror. Like the Soska Sisters, also known as the Twisted Twins, who specialise in horror movies. As we know there’s usually plenty of blood involved in the genre, but what is special about these twins is: they also make creepy, weird videos to promote blood donation campaigns in the US and Canada. Overall their work stands out for completely flipping the stereotypical representation in horror movies of women as victims, sex object or just props.

Op de X-Topia Cult Film-avond van het Fem Fest presenteren we een aantal fantastische underground filmregisseurs die met thema’s als Dystopia en Body Horror bezig zijn. Bijvoorbeeld de Soska Sisters, ook wel genoemd de Twisted Twins, die vooral horrorfilms maken. Zoals bekend vloeit er in dat genre doorgaans veel bloed, dus hoe mooi is het dat zij ook nog speciale, nogal creepy video’s maken om bloeddonatiecampagnes te promoten in de VS en Canada! Alles wat ze maken valt op doordat het de stereotype beeldvorming in horrorfilms (de vrouw als slachtoffer, lustobject of decor) volledig overboord gooit.
