To celebrate Fem Fest at WORM this week, we selected two films that are different in many ways (style, era, techniques) but have one thing in common: they deconstruct stereotypical ideas of what "the perfect woman" is supposed to be.
MEET THE MAKER
The director of “Head over Heels”, Nelly Dansen, will be present this evening! Traveling all the way from Friesland to come and shine some light on her motives for making the film, and how she managed to realise such an ambitious project. Don’t miss this funky, colourful, exuberant work of art.
PROGRAMME:
Glauben Sie nicht, dass ich eine Amazone bin (1975, Ulrike Rosenbach, 11’37”)
In this video piece "Don’t Believe I’m an Amazon" Ulrike Rosenbach shoots fifteen arrows at a reproduction of the 15th Century painting ‘Madonna in the Rose Hedge’. Originally a performance piece, in the video version we see the medieval Madonna and simultaneously, superimposed, the face of the artist. In steady sequence Rosenbach shoots off the arrows from a bow, hitting both faces. An ambiguous performance both for the viewer and the artist: violating the idea of perfection, as well as her own image.
Head over Heels (2023, Nelly Dansen, 46’35”)
"OMG SOME BIMBO GANG SQUATTED THE PLAYBOY MANSION?"
This film gloriously won the Youngblood award at the last edition of GOGBOT, September last year. Nelly managed to realise it with a small budget, out-of-the-box solutions and a maximum of do-it-yourself spirit. Not to forget the help from a colourful bunch of friends mainly acting as themselves in the film.
Through the lens of NELLY DANSEN, the protagonist of the film, Nelke Cor Mast researches the beauties and the horrors of the life of a Bimbo. Nelly is being called to fetch some lattes for her friends. And just like that, she flies off into the world. Then just A LOT of stuff happens…
"The film Head over Heels mixes staged material with a big pile of documentary footage to create a confusion between the real and the exaggerated. Redefining what film is – and can be – was the Secret Double Agenda™ in this process. Stepping into Hollywood (literally) but stepping away from the typical Hollywood-type-of-film-making, in a deconstructed chick flick and a zeitgeist document of the 21st century. A protest fo Camp, a deconstruction of The Madonna vs The Whore complex and a celebration of making the mundane in the everyday exciting. This movie is all of the above. Ha Ha! The worlds spins around in circles, I am a dizzy blonde gibbering off into the setting sun. With love, NELLY DANSEN"

ABOUT FEM FEST 2024
Some traditions are worth holding on to. That is why WORM celebrates International Women’s Day with our annual festival around the 8th of March.
We celebrate to remember the years of struggle and fight for justice for women and LGBTQ+ people. There is still so much to improve today, and we are far from having equal rights: a UN press release disclosed that in 57 countries almost half of the women are denied autonomy over their own body. And all over the world LGBTQ+ people experience harassment on a daily basis.
This year, WORM focuses on one of the most powerful means of change: sound. We invite you to indulge in the Feminist Frequencies of the Fem Fest 2024. These frequencies will oscillate and vibrate, through soundwaves, radio waves, and the voice – making sure that we amplify the voices that need to be heard.
