In Off Screen donderdag 25 mei: Ode to the Tree, animatiefilm van Nina Markus, en de premiere van de film Alleen Thuis Met Een Dienstwapen van Hester Overmars.

Nina Markus combineert in haar animatiefilms ambachtelijk handwerk met digitale technieken. Zwart/wit, maar kleurrijk en zowel realistisch als surrealistisch verbeeldt ze in haar nieuwste werk ‘Ode to the Tree’ haar persoonlijke zoektocht naar identiteit. Markus studeerde Creative Writing aan ArtEZ en illustratie aan de WdKa.

Als kind uit een politienest moest Peter Paul Schaeffer weinig hebben van dat uniform, maar uiteindelijk belandde hij toch in het blauw. Uiteindelijk belandt hij bij de Dienst Specialistische Recherche Toepassingen (DSRT), waar hij peilbakens en afluisterapparatuur installeert en undercover opereert. ‘Hoe groter de uitdaging, hoe mooier ik het vond.’ Inmiddels oogt de voormalige politieman als een gebroken mens. In deze grijsgrauwe documentaire doet Peter Paul omringd door familieleden zijn persoonlijke relaas. Hester Overmars kiest steeds opnieuw een specifieke filmische opvatting, waardoor inhoud en beeldtaal op een unieke wijze samenvallen.

Only At Home With A Service Weapon, Hester Overmars, 74′, 2023
As a child of a police family, Peter Paul Schaeffer had little use for the uniform, but eventually he ended up in blue. At the Department of Special Investigative Applications (DSRT), he installed tracking beacons and listening devices and operated undercover. "The bigger the challenge, the better I liked it." Meanwhile, the former police officer looks like a broken man. In this grayish documentary, Peter Paul, surrounded by family members, gives his personal account. Hester Overmars repeatedly chooses a specific cinematic conception, allowing content and imagery to coincide in a unique way.
