Cassandra (26, played by Adèle Exarchopoulos) is a flight attendant for a low-cost airline. Based in Lanzarote, she’s always willing to take on extra hours and carries out her duties with robotic efficiency. In her sparse free time, she just goes with the flow and floats between Tinder, parties and binging sprees. When she suddenly gets dismissed, she is forced to return home and is confronted with what she was running away from.
One of the questions Rien à Foutre (Zero Fucks Given) poignantly asks, is how one can grow into being a human while being sucked into a working environment in which its participants are merely treated as functional objects.
The film premiered in Cannes and won several prestigious prizes but didn’t get a general cinema release in the Netherlands, while its smart camerawork and meticulously excecuted art direction certainly deserve a big screen.

Cassandra (26, gespeeld door Adèle Exarchopoulos) is stewardess bij een low-cost luchtvaartmaatschappij. Ze is gestationeerd in Lanzarote, altijd bereid om extra uren te maken en voert daar haar taken uit met robotachtige efficiëntie. Haar spaarzame vrije tijd besteedt ze vooral aan Tinder dates en binge drinking parties. Als ze plotseling ontslagen wordt, moet ze terug naar huis en wordt ze geconfronteerd met datgene waarvoor ze op de vlucht was.
Een van de vragen die Rien à Foutre (Zero Fucks Given) op indringende wijze stelt, is hoe je als mens kunt groeien terwijl je wordt meegezogen in een werkomgeving waarin de deelnemers worden als functionele objecten.
De film ging in Cannes in première en won verschillende prestigieuze prijzen, maar kreeg geen reguliere bioscooprelease in Nederland, terwijl het fantastische camerawerk en het super precieze set design toch echt een groot scherm verdienen.
