Radio WORM at Rewire 2023

After 2022’s Radio WORM Goes To… report, we were back with a bigger team of reporters, speaking with Rewire artists and audiences, creating a comprehensive overview of the festival atmosphere: from behind the scenes, in the front row, and in the queue for snacks.

Radio WORM created a broadcast-collaboration with Rewire festival in The Hague, from 6 to 9 April. Over 4 days, we created live broadcasts from the festival’s Context programme, Inter/relations, with listening sessions, assemblies and panel discussions. Using livestreams, Radio WORM captured the essence of the festival’s interdisciplinary approach. Broadcasting from the festival’s hub at The Grey Space in the Middle, we interviewed artists from the iii programme, Proximity Music: Visceral Acts, and reported on the entire festival experience in our regular series Radio WORM Goes To…

This collaboration gave birth to an archive of recorded interviews, live streams, and insightful conversations, offering festival-goers and listeners a space for reflection and debate while bringing the artists’ practices into conversation with one another.

Inter/relations

The festival’s context programme Inter/relations explored how recognising fluid boundaries between humans, ‘nature’, and technology, and establishing connections between times and territories are fundamental for contemporary and experimental music and sound practices.

From our broadcasting cabin at The Grey Space, we shared contributions by Hildegaard Westerkamp, Dr. meLê yamomo, and Brandon LaBelle, among others.

Proximity Music: Visceral Acts

Proximity Music: Visceral Acts was an exhibition that invited viewers to engage playfully with mind and body. Presented by iii, in collaboration with Amare, Visceral Acts hosted a diverse range of works emerging from the backdrop of a health crisis, and brought into question ideas of health and sanity.  Radio makers from the Radio WORM team undertook deep-diving interviews which gave a broader context to each project broadcast during Rewire.

Artists in Proximity Music: Visceral Acts was: Aernoudt Jacobs, Amos Peled, Dominik ‘t Jolle & Maria Komarova, Jeroen Alexander Meijer, Karel van Laere, Matteo Marangoni & Dieter Vandoren, Naama Tsabar, Naomi Rincon Gallardo, Vica Pacheco, and Vivian Caccuri & Thiago Lanis, Frederique Pisuisse, Diane Mahin, and Alexis Bellavance. They were in conversation with Radio WORM regulars including Ash Kilmartin, Caspar Stalenhoef, Cara Mayer, Ceola Tunstall-Behrens, Ege Şahin, Joshua Thies, and Lukas Simonis.
