Meet the artists: Nina Künzel
Nina Künzel is a Rotterdam-based vocalist, performer, mover, improviser and songwriter. After finishing her Bachelors in classical singing (alongside a degree in civil engineering) she switched fields and began exploring Brazil and its music. She is currently doing a Masters in Latin performance at Codarts where her research is focused on combining rhythmical patterns of the Brazilian batucada with original (Portuguese) lyrics in her compositions. Her interest in contemporary music was sparked by collaborating with composers and joining in improvised music ensembles. Her most recent performance at the Int. Schattentheater Festival (Germany, Oct 2022) with visual duo De Lichtbende included works of John Cage and Arvo Pärt. Her style is energetic, theatrical, polyglot and often incorporates percussive elements.
