Umarell Ultras Expo OPENING

Step into a world of contemporary uselessness, our new group expo, curated by Paul Mogwitz.

During "Umarell Ultras", a multimedia exhibition, the group will take you on a ride to a cheerful dystopia of the "little man".

Umarell are men of retirement age who spend their time watching construction sites, stereotypically with hands clasped behind their back, offering unwanted advice to the workers. Its literal meaning in Italian is "little man". The term is employed as lighthearted mockery or self-deprecation.

In “Umarell Ultras”, both the protagonist, the (un)action and the location become a metaphor to the artist or activist of contemporary occasion. In a sphere of uselessness, we watch the recent developments unfold in front of us, fenced and unable to intervene, but able to voice unwanted critic.

Are we participating in action or reaction?
What is our connection to the tools we are using, are they progressive mechanics of the future, or repurposed dinosaurs?
Through the embracing of our own uselessness in the societal apparatus, the participants and visitors shift the focus towards a new narrative, based on post-historical awareness and the oxymoronic interaction of realism and absurdism.
In this theatrical display of ironic radicalisation, populism and ideological team building, the Umarell Ultra is born.
