TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!

PEMBE film club presents a cult classic, drag road trip movie from the 1990s: TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! JULIE NEWMAR (Beeban Kidron, 1995). Featuring Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo as drag queens who travel cross country to the Miss Drag Queen of America Pageant. Driving a yellow Cadillac and carrying an autographed picture of Julie Newmar, the trio come across many hurdles on their way to Hollywood: confused rednecks, aggressive cops, and car troubles. The first in Hollywood depicting drag characters, the film features iconic New York drag artists like RuPaul and Joey Arias.

The evening will start with a performance by drag and tarot artist Cosmia Absurd, who hosted last year’s queer and drag Halloween special. After the screening there’s also a short talk with Cosmia Absurd and PEMBE’s Hasret Emine, to discuss both the film and drag cinema in general.

PEMBE is a ‘film club for the 99%’ that organizes interactive screenings to keep the experience of watching a movie a communal one.
