We have good news! You can satisfy your FOMO by going out on Saturday and get some much-needed rest at the same time. Join us for Sleepover for Insomniacs—an overnight stay at WORM’s Slash gallery filled with a sleep-inducing program. Through various activities, participants can collectively attempt to fall asleep or accept their inability to do so. Whether you are a barely treatable insomniac (like the organizers) or just want to relax that night, this event is for you.
Come to the exhibition space to:
Indulge in an herbal infusion binge—be prepared for impossible amounts of valerian root we have been stocking up on.
Watch some slow cinema movies—a curated selection of classics, including:
Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, a critically acclaimed film often described as "excruciatingly boring."
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives—director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, a fellow insomniac, encourages audiences to fall asleep while watching his films.
The Turin Horse, a two-and-a-half-hour masterpiece composed of only thirty shots.
Doodle to calm your nerves—Nadine Ghandour will lead a drawing workshop, using screened films as inspiration.
Read or listen to a soothing voice reading aloud, bringing back memories of a caretaker reading to you in your childhood (or longing for it if they didn’t). The sleepover will feature a one-day library of demanding (and boring) critical theory books, texts, and essays related to the topics of sleep, insomnia, healing, and optimism.
Let’s welcome our neuroses to shared bedtime and unapologetically be unable to fall asleep together.
Although WORM provides mattresses, there will only be a small number of blankets and duvets, so we kindly ask you to bring your own sleeping bag. Also, don’t forget your pajamas and any doctor-prescribed medication that helps you fall asleep more easily.
