RESIDUE Gathering – June 2026

The gathering is open to anyone interested in performance art, documentation, and the afterlives of performance.

It will consist of the following phases:

Nina Boas – The Improvised Family
In the first part, core member Nina Boas will share research from her ongoing project The Improvised Family, which explores archival material, memory, and performance through the intertwined lives of Claudio Goulart, Flavio Pons, and Maya Gordon. Combining personal and historical narratives, the project reflects on migration, queer kinship, and the embodied traces of Amsterdam’s art scene in the 1970s and 1980s. How do archives continue to live within our bodies, memories, and artistic practices?
Looking Forward
In the second half of the gathering, we will collectively reflect on the past year of RESIDUE. We will also discuss our individual interests and possible directions for the future of the group as we work toward a screening event in October and an exhibition planned for March 2027.

…we would like to open the conversation. Where would you like to focus on when it comes to residue in performance art? What questions, materials, methods, or forms of documentation feel most urgent or inspiring to you? We look forward to continuing this exploration together.

The Performance Art documentation Work Group called ‘RESIDUE’ started in March 2025. It created a space dedicated to sharing and discussing our approaches to performance documentation. The group currently consists of six core members, alongside invited guests and participants, meeting monthly either in person or online. There have been 16 RESIDUE gatherings so far (12 in person and 4 online)
and 6 episodes of Radio RESIDUE – Audible Remains of Performance at Radio WORM: LISTEN TO December 2025 here.
