REIO (Rotterdam Electronic Improvised Orchestra)

REIO (Rotterdam Electronic Improvised Orchestra) is an initiative founded by drummer Elvis Homan (Quartzite 4tet, oa). REIO started in October 2020, and is based around 8 Rotterdam-based, professional musicians.

The improv scene in Netherlands is very important and unique, but one mostly made up of acoustic lineups or those partly combined with electronics. REIO is a fully electronic ensemble, exploring the boundaries of Free Electronic Impro, sound manipulations and timbre, and indulging in spontaneous interactions and organic flowing crossovers with the use of electronic devices. Wow.

All parameters are open. REIO touch on elements of hardcore noise or conjure up industrial soundscapes. Think Jon Hassel at the Fillmore or Stockhausen in Donaueschingen. Every recording and every concert is a unique occasion, not to be repeated, and their music lives in a no-man’s-land between the genres, somewhere between rock, electronica, jazz and modern composition.
