An evening of two intimate and immersive live performances by REDWOODS and Nicho Liam centered around their newly released EP’s, spanning ambient soundscapes, leftfield electronics, noise elements, live vocals and hypnotic visuals.
**Nicho Liam ** starts the evening with an immersive live performance around their new audiovisual EP ‘Maas Milieus’. “This EP is a result of a 3-year stay in Rotterdam, a collection of pieces inspired by my time in this city. I combine field recordings; electronic improvisation; and my works in the contemporary concert music field to create vivid, psychedelic sound collages. The results fall within the genres of experimental, ambient and/or noise music. The music and sounds were recorded in different locations in town (Hoflaankerk, de Doelen, WORM, Feijenoord, …) and feature collaborations with different artists: text by Alba Calva, concept and choreography development with Ethel Desdames and Senlly Samuel, double bass parts with Antia Balboa, drums by Branko Valchev, friendship and conversations with Clara (Claraclaroclar), guidance from René Uijlenhoet and Friso Van Wijk, and finally countless instrumentalists studying at Codarts conservatory. The final release is an audiovisual album, where video art and sound work together to create an immersive experience. The visuals and movement were realised together with Loona Dusser, Basia Jagiello and Maciej Müller; plus a feature by animator Lynatik Cinque.”
REDWOODS will play a live performance built around her newly released EP, ‘A Mirage’, to celebrate its release. She blends synth-heavy soundscapes, drum machine-driven rhythms, degraded atmospheric textures, and live vocals. Her sonics move between ethereal and dreamy to gritty and dark. Her sound draws inspiration from leftfield club, darkwave, electro and UK electronic experimentalism. “’A Mirage’ is my second release. It came from a period of longing, of chasing something that always felt just ahead of me and out of reach, not even knowing if it truly existed…and eventually finding meaning in the journey there. My music-making process was very abstract, rarely following a fixed structure. I often create melodies through audio mangling, time-stretching and manipulating recordings of myself playing synths or using my voice. I work a lot with resampling and degradation to create texture and dissonance. The sounds I use are a mix of analogue synths such as the KORG DW8000, the Ibanez UE405 tape delay, granular synthesis VSTs, and distorted 808s and drum machines. I also sample my voice in unconventional ways, pitching, layering and reshaping it into something textural rather than purely melodic.’’
About the Artists/Bios
● REDWOODS is a Portuguese music artist, producer and songwriter based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Her sound blends leftfield electronic and dance genres, moving into experimental and ambient territories. She founded the label Below The Waves, where she released her debut album Rapture in late 2024, and will release her new EP A Mirage in March 2026.
