Tussen 2007 en 2023 maakte Jan Willem van Dam The Agony of identity, een drieluik rond zijn alter ego Quamé Nyantakyi: een serie films over identiteit, de rol van de kunstenaar en de zin en onzin van cinema. In THE LAST (dis) ENCHANTING DAYS, deel 3 in deze serie, neemt Najat Mohammed de rol van plots overleden hoodrolspeler Quamé Nyantakyi uit de eerdere twee delen.
Najat, alias Nana, staat nog onbevangen in het leven, heeft geen antwoorden en is vooral nieuwsgierig. "If you had an actor, what would you make him do?”, “What is good about life?”, “Does sex undermines the free will?”, “What is the difference between a white and a black homosexual”, “Do you feel different from others? And if so, in what way?” en de meest existentiële van allemaal: “Denk je nog wel eens aan het halen van je rijbewijs?” Gewapend met deze vragen trekt Nana het land in, naar the heart of darkness, op zoek naar de wortels van Quamé. Het spel met alter ego’s wordt een ware carrousel wanneer ook Van Dam het alter ego van Quamé wordt.
Jan Willem van Dam, geboren op de boot ‘Overal Thuis’ in Dokkum doorliep moeizaam de middelbare school waarna hij allround autodidact filmmaker en liefhebber van het ongewaardeerde werd.
In het van Dammiaans universum bestaat geen midden, eind of begin. Er wordt veelvuldig heen en weer gesprongen in tijd en plaats, associaties buitelen over elkaar heen, iedereen speelt zichzelf én de ander, alles kan tegelijkertijd gebeuren.

Between 2007 and 2023, Jan Willem van Dam made The Agony of Identity, a triptych centered around his alter ego Quamé Nyantakyi; a series of films about identity, the role of the artist and the sense and nonsense of cinema. In THE LAST (dis) ENCHANTING DAYS, part 3 in this series, Najat Mohammed takes over the role of suddenly deceased main protagonist Quamé Nyantakyi from the previous two parts.
Najat, aka Nana, is still uninhibited in life, has no answers and is mostly curious. "If you had an actor, what would you make him do?", "What is good about life?", "Does sex undermines the free will?", "What is the difference between a white and a black homosexual?", "Do you feel different from others? And if so, in what way?" and the most existential of all, "Do you ever think about getting your driver’s license?" Armed with these questions, Nana travels the country, to the heart of darkness, in search of Quamé’s roots. The game of alter egos becomes a veritable carousel when Van Dam also becomes Quamé’s alter ego.
Jan Willem van Dam, born on the boat ‘Overal Thuis’ in Dokkum went through high school with difficulty after which he became an all-round self-taught filmmaker and lover of the unappreciated.
In the van Dammian universe, there is no middle, end or beginning. There is frequent jumping back and forth in time and place, associations tumble over each other, everyone plays himself and the other, everything can happen simultaneously.
