FRAME OF REFERENCE

New year, new Frame of Reference! Frame Of Reference is a yearly screening showcasing four selected short films from animation students of the Willem De Kooning Academy. This event aims to jumpstart the student’s journey in the industry and show a wide-ranging audience what animation has to offer in all its facets and the new work being made in the city.

Each student will bring us a short film by an established international animator that inspired their practices, allowing the Q&A with the audience to move from technique to artistic vision, progression and any other topic we’ll find ourselves in.

So, whether you are an animation pro or you’ve always wanted to know what goes into making an animated short, you can join us at WORM to witness the premiere of these four student shorts, talk with the filmmakers, and watch the short films that inspired them.

The event will be hosted by Riccardo Canciello and Robert-Jonathan Koeyers, and will be held in English.

Am I The Man? by Wouter de Man
A tormented man falls into paranoia and self inflicted pain, seeking escape from a world he fears. Confronting his darker fears he finds an unexpected moment of elation and acceptance.

Careful What You Wish For by Ioana Ioancea
When a girl encounters what she believes to be a “religious” item, it seems as if all her wishes come to life with just a prayer. Soon, she becomes obsessed with the power the object gives her and before she knows it, she’s losing herself.

(S)MOTHER by Panayio Sarri and Mae McNamara
A closeted young Thai woman obsessively grieves the sudden death of her controlling and
abusive mother.

PIZZAPARTY by Dario Cinturrino
A hungry guy, trying to enjoy his pizza, gets involved in a fight to the death against a hungrier robot.
