Every Thursday evening in June 2025, and the first Thursday of July, the hidden garden Eendrachtstuin transforms into Filmtuin, our beloved yearly open-air cinema. From sundown, we’ll screen a mix of arthouse films, handpicked by neighbours and WORM’s film team.

PlayTime

As its title indicates, PlayTime illustrates a playfully curious exploration of Paris between a lost Frenchman, Monsieur Hulot, and a young American tourist, Barbara. During their very own ‘playtime’, somewhat like a game of peek-a-boo and hide-and-seek, the two characters are willing to lose themselves in the city only to later find each other again. The film satirizes the urban environment, as well as the cultural differences between the characters.PlayTime is considered Jacques Tati’s magnum opus, with him also starring in the role of Monsieur Hulot- a recurring character from his earlier films.

This screening is programmed by WORM’s neighbour, Rabin Huissen. Rabin is a conceptual artist, regarding the body and its movements as a medium of artistic expression. His perspective very much applies to his movie pick for Filmtuin- the characters are traversing the city, blending public maps with personal routes, relating to what he has termed an "intimate body experience".

Elke donderdagavond in juni 2025, en op de eerste donderdag van juli, verandert de verborgen tuin de Eendrachtstuin in de Filmtuin – onze jaarlijkse mini-openluchtbioscoop. Vanaf zonsondergang vertonen we een mix van arthouse films, zorgvuldig geselecteerd door buurtbewoners en het filmteam van WORM.

Zoals de titel al doet vermoeden, is PlayTime een speelse en nieuwsgierige verkenning van Parijs, gevolgd door een verdwaalde Fransman, Monsieur Hulot, en een jonge Amerikaanse toeriste, Barbara. Tijdens hun eigen ‘speeltijd’ – als een soort kiekeboe en verstoppertje – verliezen de twee zich bewust in de stad, om elkaar later weer terug te vinden. De film is een satire op het stedelijke leven en de culturele verschillen tussen de personages. PlayTime wordt beschouwd als het meesterwerk van Jacques Tati, waarin hij zelf ook de rol speelt van Monsieur Hulot – een terugkerend personage uit zijn eerdere films.

Deze vertoning is geprogrammeerd door WORM’s buurman, Rabin Huissen. Rabin is conceptueel kunstenaar en beschouwt het lichaam en zijn bewegingen als medium voor artistieke expressie. Die benadering sluit goed aan bij zijn filmkeuze voor Filmtuin – de personages bewegen zich door de stad en vermengen publieke kaarten met persoonlijke routes, iets wat Rabin zelf omschrijft als een “intieme lichaamservaring”.
