Every Thursday evening in June 2025, and the first Thursday of July, the hidden garden Eendrachtstuin transforms into Filmtuin, our beloved yearly open-air cinema. From sundown, we’ll screen a mix of arthouse films, handpicked by neighbours and WORM’s film team.

As Far As The Sea

In the rehabilitation unit of an Athenian hospital, critically injured patients find themselves trying to walk again and regain their autonomy in alternative ways. The audience witnesses as the patients negotiate with ability and disability alike, stuck between acceptance and denial, hosting a discussion on loss and grief, as well as hope and faith. Although their cases are different, they all have one thing in common- they are all looking forward to reaching the sea.

This documentary was selected by the film programming intern, Eleni Hamhougia. Knowing that people with disabilities are often systemically silenced, she regards As Far As The Sea as a mandatory watch, painting an honest and holistic image of disability.

Elke donderdagavond in juni 2025, en op de eerste donderdag van juli, verandert de verborgen tuin de Eendrachtstuin in de Filmtuin – onze jaarlijkse mini-openluchtbioscoop. Vanaf zonsondergang vertonen we een mix van arthouse films, zorgvuldig geselecteerd door buurtbewoners en het filmteam van WORM.

In de revalidatieafdeling van een ziekenhuis in Athene proberen zwaar gewonde patiënten opnieuw te leren lopen en op alternatieve manieren hun zelfstandigheid terug te winnen. De kijker wordt getuige van hoe zij balanceren tussen acceptatie en ontkenning, en onderhandelen met zowel hun mogelijkheden als hun beperkingen. Er ontvouwt zich een gesprek over verlies en rouw, maar ook over hoop en vertrouwen. Hoewel hun situaties verschillend zijn, delen ze allemaal hetzelfde verlangen: de zee bereiken.

Deze documentaire werd geselecteerd door filmprogrammeerstagiaire Eleni Hamhougia. Wetende dat mensen met een beperking vaak systematisch het zwijgen wordt opgelegd, beschouwt zij As Far As The Sea als verplichte kost, omdat de film een eerlijk en holistisch beeld van beperking schetst.
