Serbia, 2021, 62 min., Serbian with English subtitles
In Rampart, Marko Grba Singh traces his childhood memories and experiences in Belgrade, during the Kosovo War in 1998 and 1999.
The film follows Singh as he spends time in the abandoned apartment of his childhood, where he revisits memories and experiences both idyllic and traumatic. The family VHS archive serves as a window into his past, showcasing everyday encounters, gatherings, pets, and videogames, all set against the armed conflict. It’s a poignant exploration of personal history, as much as it is shows the impact of historical events on individual lives.
This screening is part of Field Recordings, platform for contemporary anthropological film, sound works and landscape cinema.
