(DIS)CONNECTED

How can differences be bridged? What does it means to understand one another on an intimate level? What (dis)connect people to reather laugh or fight? (Dis)connected is a one-time screening of three short animated films gathered from Willem de Kooning Academy’s graduating class of 2025.

With the support of WORM, (Dis)connected presents stories that span far and wide, but all three call back to the similar idea that we are not alone. Not if we choose to reach out and grasp what’s right in front of us.

Good Enough
by Mandy van Yperen

After ignoring her leaking roof for too long, Rainn’s room overflows. In the water she finds all kinds of mystical and beautiful creatures. Her personal items, however, threaten to destroy that beauty.

Wanderers
by Ashlin Winckler
2025, Netherlands, 7 minutes, English
When an isolated celestial being meets a shooting star in the vast emptiness of space, they must choose whether to put their faith in the friendly stranger or continue to rely on the loneliness that haunts them.

Straight Forward
by Lucas Tepper
2025, Netherlands, 5 minutes, English w/ English Subtitles
When Albert accidentally hires a drag queen instead of a princess for his daughter’s birthday party, his daughter is thrilled, but Albert begins to unravel. He spirals through a vibrant, chaotic fever dream hosted by a dragdemon in a leotard and a tutu. Can he overcome his biases and make the day special for his daughter?

Some more info about the artists
Mandy van Yperen brings hand-drawn worlds to life, shifting easily between flashy action and softer, emotional moments. With Good Enough, she explores how even so-called “bad” feelings can carry their own kind of beauty.
Ashlin Winckler tells stories across animation, dance and writing, weaving together themes of queerness, identity and connection. Her work crosses mediums but always comes back to human relationships.
Lucas Tepper channels the wild energy of 90s cartoons into sharp satire. Through playful 2D and 3D characters, he takes on bias and prejudice with humour, turning heavy themes into lively stories.
