Idak-Idak-Idak follows three generations of Sasak women, a daughter, her mother and her grandmother, and the treasures taken from Lombok by the Dutch in 1894. The film moves between Indonesia and the Netherlands, mixing full-spectrum cinematography with personal footage. In Sasak, "idak" means both heart and absence.

Before the screening, Kae Oktorina and christopher tym host a workshop in which you imagine ways to embody the objects of the Lombok Treasure. It carries on the way the film itself was made. No experience needed, and you don’t have to be an artist. The workshop is participatory, so you take part rather than watch. There is room for ten people.

You are welcome to bring two things. A memory of your mother or grandmother: a story, an image, a gesture, a phrase, or something that has simply stayed with you. And a small object you think of as a treasure of your own. It doesn’t have to be worth anything. Something inherited, found, made by someone you love, or an everyday object that holds a memory. Both are optional and you can join without bringing anything.

A ticket to the workshop also gives you access to the film screening.

The evening is part of Can you hear the objects speak?, a programme by Asian Movie Night and wysiwyg, which grew out of Beyond Provenance, a project initiated with Indeks (Bandung). Idak-Idak-Idak volgt drie generaties Sasak-vrouwen, een dochter, haar moeder en haar grootmoeder, en de Lombokschat die Nederland in 1894 buitmaakte. De film beweegt tussen Indonesië en Nederland, en combineert full-spectrum beeld met privéopnames. In het Sasak betekent "idak" zowel hart als afwezigheid.

Voor de film geven Kae Oktorina en christopher tym een workshop waarin je manieren bedenkt om de objecten van de Lombokschat te belichamen. Dat is precies hoe de film ook tot stand kwam. Je hoeft geen kunstenaar te zijn en ervaring is niet nodig. De workshop is participatief, je doet dus mee. Er is plek voor tien mensen.

Je mag twee dingen meenemen. Een herinnering aan je moeder of grootmoeder: een verhaal, een beeld, een gebaar, een zin, of iets dat gewoon is blijven hangen. En een klein voorwerp dat voor jou een schat is. Het hoeft niets waard te zijn. Iets geërfds, iets gevondens, iets gemaakt door iemand van wie je houdt, of een alledaags ding waar een herinnering aan vastzit. Allebei mag, allebei hoeft niet, en je kunt ook met lege handen komen.
