Matthias Carter, (aka HIDDEN BEHIND bookings), is a familiar face at WORM.
He’s a young external programmer who has worked his way up through his experience as an intern and volunteer at WORM. Matthias cut his teeth on our music productions this past 5 years, specifically our old series, Snackbar, where he astutely built up a good reputation as an artist handler and production hand, eventually booking a Snackbar Valentine’s Day edition. Over time he has carved out a space of his own in many other venues in Rotterdam, such as Time is the New Space, Roodkapje, and Barrio (FKA 160k). There will also be a one-off summer ’26 show at Brutus. Carter has a nose for booking exciting, young “glocal” punk and post-punk acts and challenging guitar and synth-based music.
For the rest of 2026 and 2027, Carter promises some exciting shows: including organising a Merch Market with a concert on 19 September, “to bring local distros together” and host three “beloved” acts he discovered at WORM: Etta Harbar, Tonto & Fix Everything. Another night to watch out for happens this November, where Carter collaborates with 12fu bookings and OCCII sound tech to host the Polish noise rock act, Allarme.
And there are other ideas in the pipeline. From his earliest days at WORM, that happened when we operated as a “hybrid” venue thanks to the Covid restrictions, Carter would document the shows, and was often seen perched unceremoniously on a ledge or side of stage, filming an act. After working on this year’s Vessel 11 – Calls From The Hull Vol.4, Carter wants to develop further the live video archiving from the HIDDEN BEHIND x WORM shows onto physical formats such as VHS. HIDDEN BEHIND and is looking to produce two VA compilation cassettes with members of the WORM’s Studio Coope nights, and artists based in Rotterdam.
There’s a good Dutch-language interview with Matthias from 2025 on Rotterdam’s 3voor12 site that you can read here. https://3voor12lokaal.vpro.nl/artikelen/achter-de-schermen-matthias-carter
