Our Club and Nightlife programmer Frederik Teixeira has a growing hobby, photography.
This new activity has recently allowed him to get some up-close, or behind-the-scenes shots of the events he’s booked.
Teixeira started dabbling with photography last year at the first edition of Roots & Riddims, which is back at WORM on Saturday, the 25th of July, as one of the after-events to the annual zomercarnaval parade. This edition features Lady Shaka and DJ Marfox amongst others.
Whilst Frederik (too modestly) thinks his work is “amateurish”, we really like the way that in these photographs, he instinctively captures some themes his wider programme is based around. They pick up on the idea of nightlife community and current developments in dance music in the wider African diaspora, with selectors and organisations such as Principe Discos (Portugal), Nyege Nyege (Uganda), Roots & Riddims (Caribbean) and Faroffa (Brazil & Cabo Verde). WORM’s nightlife community programming runs workshops, panels, and multidisciplinary events that are related to night culture, such as peer-to-peer and grassroots nights, concerned with mutual exchange.
Have a scroll through and soak up some atmosphere.
