Harold Schellinx RIP

WORM is devastated to hear the news of the sudden passing of Harold Schellinx, shortly before he was to host a series of events with us.

Harold was mainly known in alternative music circles in Europe for making uncompromising experimental music in the late seventies and early eighties as part of The Young Lions, and being one of the founders of the short lived but influential ULTRA phenomenon in the Netherlands between 1978 and 1983. Harold always bridled in calling this remarkable collection of rebellious musical like-minds and the music they made a movement: though his wonderful book on the subject, ULTRA, is possibly the definitive personal history of these times.

Schellinx was also a writer, a teacher and a polymath, and producing forward-thinking, sound-based artforms right up to the end. A man with a unique take on the world around him, we were lucky to interview him recently, for a multipart interview meant to promote the series of events this June, 2025. You can get a measure of how Harold was, from these witty and insightful pieces and we leave them published on our website as a tribute to his spirit.

We salute him, and his work, and pass on our sincere commiserations to his friends and family.

Events will be rescheduled, and a tribute to Harold at WORM is being planned.

Vale, Harold.
