"Gender Trouble" is curated by director, producer and cinephile Antony Voronov, a Russian genderqueer refugee. In the country he left, films like these are now classified as extremist materials under the law.

During the evening we explore questions around sex and gender identity, sparked by three films from the 1910s. Have attitudes to gender really changed that much? How were non-conforming gender expression and behaviour represented in film a century ago, and how does that compare to now?

Algie the Miner (fragment)

Algie the Miner works with the "sissy" character popular at the time: a feminine man who, after a spell in the Wild West, takes on more conventionally masculine traits. Some critics read the sissy as a gay-coded figure. Is that what we see on screen here, or is sexuality being confused with gender expression? We're curious about your reading.

The Florida Enchantment (fragments)

Probably one of the earliest films to address what we would now call transgender experience. The seeds that change a person's sex are nowadays easy to read as an allusion to hormone therapy, which came much later.

I Don't Want to Be a Man (full film)

Lubitsch's film is about women's agency, gender curiosity and cross-dressing. The title sounds like a conclusion, but what comes before it is a young woman trying out a man's role and finding out what it gives her.

We take these films as open works, where meaning comes out of the encounter between the film and whoever is watching. There are no right or wrong readings, and yours will shape the evening as much as anything on screen.

You don't need to know anything about 1910s cinema, or to have seen a silent film before. Each film gets a short introduction with historical context, and after each screening there's time to talk about how they land today.

Tijdens deze avond onderzoeken we vragen rond sekse en genderidentiteit, aan de hand van drie films uit de jaren tien van de vorige eeuw. Zijn de opvattingen over gender werkelijk zo veranderd? Hoe werden gendernonconform gedrag en genderexpressie een eeuw geleden in film verbeeld, en hoe verhoudt zich dat tot het heden?

We zijn benieuwd naar jouw lezing.

I Don't Want to Be a Man (volledige film)

Lubitsch' film gaat over de handelingsvrijheid van vrouwen, nieuwsgierigheid naar gender en cross-dressing. De titel klinkt als een conclusie, maar wat eraan voorafgaat is een jonge vrouw die een mannenrol uitprobeert en ontdekt wat die haar oplevert.

We benaderen deze films als open werken, waarin betekenis ontstaat in de ontmoeting tussen de film en wie ernaar kijkt. Er zijn geen goede of foute lezingen, en de jouwe bepaalt de avond net zo goed als wat er op het scherm gebeurt.

Je hoeft niets te weten over de cinema van de jaren tien, en je hoeft nooit eerder een stille film te hebben gezien. Elke film krijgt een korte inleiding waarin de historische context gegeven wordt, en na elke vertoning is er tijd om te praten over de manier waarop ze anno 2026 binnenkomen.

Sabina Lukovic
Weet als geen ander hoe ze het publiek kan bespelen met haar meeslepende teksten. Stond zo'n beetje in alle steden en op alle festivals, zoals Solar, de Gentse Feesten en Lowlands. Sabina is koningin punchline. Ze weet situaties altijd zo te schetsen dat ze onder je huid kruipen en je huid kan niet voorkomen dat dat kippenvel oplevert. Haar teksten gaan over kwetsbaarheid, mental health en rising like a phoenix. Ze is onmisbaar in het Mensen Zeggen Dingen leger, en gaat overal met hen mee naar toe om zalen omver te blazen. Want dat doet ze.

Artiesten
Oumaima Yahiaoui
Oumaima Yahiaoui (2006) is dichter, schrijver en performer. Ze studeert Critical Humanities aan het Erasmus University College en werkt als freelanceverslaggever bij het Algemeen Dagblad.
Ze was in 2020 de winnaar van de Jongerenschrijfwedstrijd over 75 jaar vrijheid, georganiseerd door De Balie en het Amsterdams 4 en 5 mei comité. In 2022 en 2023 schreef Oumaima samen met Martijn Simons twee briefwisselingen voor voetbaltijdschrift Hard Gras, waarna ze geïntroduceerd werd aan de literaire wereld. In 2024 schreef ze voor de Algemeen Daglad-rubriek ‘Oumaima in de VS’ columns waarin ze de landelijke verkiezingen van de Verenigde Staten volgde.
Sinds 2026 is zij de jongerenstadsdichter van Rotterdam, de stad waar ze is geboren en getogen. Het juryrapport oordeelde: ‘Haar rijke taal doet persoonlijk aan, maar niet privé, en daarmee achten we haar in staat om stem te geven aan een particuliere beleving van de stad die de blik op de stad voor haar stadsgenoten kan openbreken.’ Sinds haar aanwijzing tot jongerenstadsdichter schreef ze in samenwerking met stadsdichter Benzokarim twee gedichten: ‘In die Glittering’ en ‘Wisselen’.
In 2026 publiceert ze ook een correspondentie met Martijn Simons in diens boek Beste meneer Simons, dat 23 april verschijnt bij Uitgeverij Thomas Rap.

Siham Amghar
Siham Amghar schrijft voornamelijk gedichten en korte poëtische verhalen. Haar teksten zijn ontstaan door en voor het podium, maar ook op papier komen haar teksten tot uiting. In 2014 won ze de El Hizjra literatuurprijs en ze heeft voorgedragen op o.a. het Rotterdams Lezersfeest, Spoken Beat Night, Woorden Worden Zinnen en het Crossing Border festival. In Rabat droeg zij voor uit haar bundel 'Als ik wegdrijf'. Ze nam deel aan het Slow Writing Lab van het Nederlands Letterenfonds, aan #NieuweStukken van Fonds Podiumkunsten en aan Het Veerhuis talentenprogramma. Tijdens deze trajecten hield zij zich bezig met de thema's vrijheid, seksualiteit en intergenerationele verhalen. Siham zat in een talentontwikkeltraject van De Nieuwe Oost | Wintertuin. Momenteel is zij specialist voorlichtingen en werkt zij aan een groter verhaal.

Geoffrey van der Ven
Geoffrey van der Ven, schrijver en theatermaker, staat bekend om zijn kritische werk over queer- en BIPOC-ervaringen. Zijn werk was te zien bij het Eurovisie Songfestival, het Nieuwe Luxor Theater en het Amsterdam Fringe Festival. Zijn eerste tour met de solovoorstelling ‘Het is niet Nieuw’ , waarin hij de queer geschiedenis van Afrika belicht, is recent afgerond. Momenteel werkt hij aan zijn nieuwe voorstelling ‘Anders ik wel’ waarin hij de ervaring van schaamte en ‘anders-zijn’ onderzoekt.

Smita James
Smita James ( NIjkerk, 1983) is een Surinaams Nederlandse schrijver, dichter en performancekunstenaar. Sinds 2002 performt ze haar teksten vanaf gerenommeerde literaire podia als Re:definition, Cinnamon Wednesdays, Woorden worden Zinnen, SLAA Perdu, Read My World en Poetry International. Daarmee behoort zij tot de incrowd van de, voormalig underground, spoken word scene die Nederland nu rijk is. In 2019 heeft ze bijgedragen aan hèt Spoken word boek Hardop (Atlas, 2019).
Daarnaast heeft James aan verschillende andere publicaties bijgedragen; Stichting Kaihan (Ministerie van Sociale Zaken, 2011), DICHTER (Plint, 2018 en 2019), FREE HERI HERI (Kip Republic, 2019), , Atlas van Herdenken ( Wij zijn Amsterdam, 2023), Kala Pani (Wereldmuseum, 2024), Het grote Caribische Verhalen Boek (Querido, 2024).
Haar werk richt zich op thema’s als identiteit, metafysica en de Afro- en Indo- Caribische diaspora binnen ons sociaal domein. Hoewel haar schrijven begint op papier, eindigen haar teksten daar niet altijd. Ze werkt graag interdisciplinair en werkt daarom ook graag met andere makers. Samenwerkingen met artiesten als Hans Dulfer, Alida Dors, Ira Kip, het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Michael Varenkamp, Babs Gons en Richard Kofi hebben haar creatieve horizon verbreed. Als Poetic Designer gebruikt ze haar teksten als bron voor audiovisuele kunstinstallaties, voice-overs, muziek, theater, dans en film.

Wessel Klootwijk
Wessel Klootwijk (1993) is een Rotterdamse schrijver, dichter en verhalenverteller met een bouwkundige achtergrond. Hij vangt vergankelijke momenten in taal, maakt woordkunst tastbaar in exposities en brengt de stad tot leven op het podium. Zijn werk beweegt tussen het alledaagse en het weidse, het liefdevolle en het kritische — altijd met oog voor de schoonheid die je bijna zou missen. Zowel schrijvend als sprekend zet hij de gewoonste dingen in hun schoonste licht.
Met wortels in Papendrecht, vertakkingen in Dordrecht en een hart in Rotterdam, bouwt hij bruggen tussen mens, natuur en gebouw, herinnering en vooruitzicht. Als performer en presentator brengt hij verhalen tot leven, van spoken word tot geschreven poëzie en proza. Een schrijver tussen haringmarkt en havenlicht. Waar iedereen een letter is uit een verschillend alfabet, dicht hij graag de spatie.

Esca$h
Esca$h is een elektronische popartiest uit Zwolle die muziek maakt voor mensen die vaak buiten de boot vallen. Haar muziek is een plek om je masker af te doen kwetsbaar en eerlijk. Geen gemaakte perfectie, geen toxic positivity, maar echte verhalen en emoties. Bij Esca$h mag je zijn wie je bent ook als je dat zelf soms nog niet helemaal durft, of nog niet precies weet wie dat is.

This edition is co-curated and produced in collaboration with Amsterdam-based collective TREVOGA.

Step through the threshold SPELL_LOCKET and TREVOGA create for you and enter a maze of interconnected experiences, where each work gradually unfolds into the next.

This night has three acts: Acidic Male (live set); XX-63, a dance-theatre piece from TREVOGA; and a hybrid DJ set from k0priva. Expect industrial sound, intense physicality, hypnotic rhythms, and a space where synthetic pleasure comes with an anxious aftertaste.

SPELL_LOCKET and TREVOGA go rogue, taking theatre off-stage and into the cracks between DIY, the club and high-brow art.

TREVOGA — XX-63
TREVOGA is a multidisciplinary collective based in Amsterdam whose work exists between dance, theatre, sound and visual art. From dreamers to doomers and affect aliens drawn towards intensity, TREVOGA is a community of movers who resist convention. Baked in a vestibule of Hell, Trevoga’s second 'danced-theatre piece', XX-63, inhabits "the exhausted afterlife of counterculture". Through repetition and aborted gestures, XX-63 takes you into a standstill suspended between dreamstate and delay, where euphoric repetition begins to feel tight, and withdrawal becomes not merely a symptom, but a tactic.

ACIDIC MALE
Acidic Male moves between industrial sound, hypnotic rhythms, noise and experimental vocals, inhabiting the tension between softness and abrasion, violence and comfort, seduction and collapse. Through themes of sexuality, shame, revenge and bodily memory, sound becomes a means of rupture and altered perception, ultimately returning to the body’s capacity to transform.

k0priva
k0priva is an entity inhabiting the space between DJ set, ritual and sonic storytelling. Moving through hypnotic, industrial and visceral rhythms, she builds unstable worlds where seduction, tension and release slowly take possession of the body.

Zaïre Krieger treedt op en gaat onder begeleiding van Mojdeh Feili in gesprek met drie jonge schrijvers (die toevallig, of niet zo toevallig, allemaal les van haar hebben of hebben gehad): Kylie Lyandra, Gauri Malhoe en Anissa El Mazouzi. Verder is er muziek van Morèl en wordt de middag gehost door Chido Schurgers.

A cinematic continuation of sonic adventure Eat Your Feelings Radio, the screenings introduce a diverse movie selection that emphasises provocative subjects accompanied by themed snacks, consumed at specific moments. The screenings open with an introductory talk and eating instructions, followed by an informal Q&A around drinks, and sharing stories our experiences and of course, our feelings.

The result of a fruitful research on female directors in Eastern Europe during the Iron Curtain, this is the second screening of this mini-series introducing you to the world of cinematic possibilities that were open to women during this complicated time.

Tatjana Ivančić (1913-1986). Ivancic made around seventy Super 8mm films in just two decades (1960-1980), with a Russian camera that her son had stopped using. With all the freedom that comes with amateur filmmaking, her work had a successful run on the amateur film festival circuit in the former Yugoslavia. Always based on her daily life, Ivancic's work poetically rescues the beauty of nature, of small things, small flashes of light among the mundane and Variations is no different. A short and mesmerising slice of life.

Ceiling / Strop 40’

Strop (Ceiling, 1962) is a medium-length film written and directed by Věra Chytilová as her graduation project at Prague's FAMU academy.

The film follows Marta (played by non-actress Marta Kaňkovská), a young woman who abandons medical school to work as a fashion model in Prague. Though her life appears glamorous and comfortable on the surface, she becomes increasingly disillusioned by the superficiality, objectification, and sexism inherent in the fashion industry. Trapped in a cycle of dull, repetitive runway shows and routine interactions with condescending men, Marta feels alienated and stifled. A chance encounter with a former medical school peer and a night out with her boyfriend force her to confront the figurative "ceiling" limiting her personal freedom and potential. Stop explores Chytilová’s favourite theme - emancipation. Many of the female characters in Chytilová’s films battle, often in vain, to extricate themselves from an existential stereotype. This documentary-style film also features a number of future celebrities of the Czechoslovak New Wave film scene, including fellow FAMU students Jiří Menzel and Miloš Forman.

The screening is accompanied by an unconventional buffet inspired by the work of Polish artist Natalia LL, "Consumer Art" (1972), and a Polaroid photo shoot with her staple props: bananas and vanilla pudding.

Erica Dawn Lyle
A solo guitar odyssey that will take you to places far and wide. Erica Dawn Lyle is a writer, curator, experimental musician, and cultural instigator who lives in New York and Los Angeles. The former touring guitar player for Bikini Kill, as a solo performer Lyle has released musical collaborations with Kim Gordon, The Raincoats, Bernadette Mayer, Kathleen Hanna, Kim Deal, Brontez Purnell, and many more. She also performs in the free jazz//activist duo, MYKAWARA, with drummer, Marshall Trammell. Lyle is the author of Streetopia (Booklyn, 2015) and a contributor to Artforum, Art in America, Frieze, and other publications. Her most recent publication is the chapbook, The Knight of Cups (Beladonna Press, 2023). Her latest album, On Fire, was released jointly by Feeding Tube and Half A Million Records in October 2025.

Reona & Grgur Savic
A freshly formed duo sharing an interest in sound as it emerges through body, object, voice, and gesture. Their performances unfold as a shifting field between raw energy and subtle moments within pure improvisation.
Tokyo-based artist Reona treats tap dance as a sonic instrument. Through the contact of tap shoes and wooden boards, metal sheets, chains, steel bowls, plastic bags, and loudspeakers, she constructs dense rhythmic textures and raw sound surfaces. Her impulses travel directly through the body, from legs to arms to breath, transforming movement into sound and sound into choreography.
Berlin-based artist Grgur Savić works between sound, visual art, and technology. His practice explores the physicality of sound through the deconstruction and preparation of instruments, graphic scores, and the transformation of found materials into hybrid sound–text structures. Across formats, his work listens for how sound, text, and objects can be coded, re-coded, and ultimately re-heard.
In their collaboration, rhythm fractures into noise, objects become instruments, and movement becomes composition. Listening becomes physical, and the stage transforms into a space where sound, gesture, and matter unfold in real time. Get an impression of that from their trailer, here.

Een spannende nieuwe live muziekavond in het WORM-partnerpodium [WGW-podium]. Deze artiesten konden we natuurlijk niet Rotterdam voorbij laten gaan.

Erica Dawn Lyle
Een solo-gitaar expeditie die je alle kanten op neemt. Erica Dawn Lyle komt uit New York en Los Angeles. Ze is schrijver, curator en experimenteel muzikant.
Lyle was jarenlang de tourgitarist van Bikini Kill. Als solo artiest werkte ze samen met onder anderen Kim Gordon, The Raincoats, Bernadette Mayer, Kathleen Hanna, Kim Deal en Brontez Purnell. Ook speelt ze in het freejazz/activistische duo MYKAWARA, samen met drummer Marshall Trammell.

Reona & Grgur Savić
Een nieuwe duo die interesse heeft in hoe geluid ontstaat vanuit het lichaam, objecten, stem en beweging. Hun optredens bewegen zich tussen rauwe energie en momenten van pure improvisatie.
De in Tokio gevestigde kunstenaar Reona gebruikt tapdans als een muziekinstrument. Door contact van haar tapschoenen op houten planken, metalen platen, kettingen, stalen schalen, plastic zakken en luidsprekers, creëert ze ritmische structuren en rauwe geluidslandschappen. Haar impulsen bewegen rechtstreeks door haar lichaam, van benen naar armen en ademhaling, waarbij beweging verandert in geluid en geluid in choreografie.
Kunstenaar Grgur Savić uit Berlijn beweegt zich tussen geluid, beeldende kunst en technologie. In zijn werk onderzoekt hij de fysieke kant van geluid door instrumenten uit elkaar te halen en opnieuw te bewerken en gevonden materialen om te vormen tot hybride structuren van geluid en tekst. In verschillende vormen onderzoekt hij hoe geluid, tekst en objecten gecodeerd, opnieuw gecodeerd en uiteindelijk opnieuw gehoord kunnen worden.
In hun samenwerking verandert ritme in ruis, worden objecten instrumenten en wordt beweging compositie. Luisteren wordt iets lichamelijks en het podium verandert in een plek waar geluid, beweging en materiaal zich in real time ontvouwen.

This edition opens with the short film Pimple (original title: Borbulha), winner of Best Short at BUTFF 2026. This 4-minute Portuguese short, directed by Fernando Alle, follows a young boy whose pimple bursts, leading to a bloody disaster. Short, gnarly, and the perfect warm-up for what's to come.

Then it's time for the main feature: La Cosa en la Niebla (The Thing in the Fog), winner of Best Feature at BUTFF 2026. This incredibly creative single-location horror comedy proves you don't need a big budget to build an entire universe.
Trapped in an increasingly strange space, Ismael and Daniela must face unexplained signals, absurd decisions, and a threat that seems to come from somewhere else: the Audreys, an alien presence whose invasion could put all of humanity at risk.
With a B-movie spirit, dark humor and a clear genre drive, La Cosa en la Niebla turns a single location into its own universe: a closed cockpit where the absurd, the cosmic and the human collide as the threat of the Audreys becomes inevitable. In occorence of Palestine Cinema Day

Gaza, three MiniDV tapes recently remerged showcasing life in the strip from 2001. What started as a search for a former prison mate from 1989 turns into an unexpected road trip from the north to the south of Gaza with Hasan, a local guide whose fate remains unknown.

To what extent can the real and figural materiality of an image become an abstraction or, potentially more, a spectrum? The question evokes both aesthetic and ethical problems which converge towards a territory as real as it is abstract and phantasmagorical: Palestine.

This is the inquiry of Kamal Aljafari with Hasan in Gaza, a striking reflection on memory, loss, and the passage of time, capturing a Gaza and lives that may have disappeared forever.

Kamal Aljafari is a Palestinian filmmaker and artist. His films have screened at major festivals and museums, including Locarno, London, Viennale, and the 35th Bienal de São Paulo Currently a fellow at Columbia University's Institute for Ideas and Imagination, he is developing “Beirut 1931,” a fiction film to be shot in Jaffa.

In recent decades, private equity firms like Blackstone, KKR, and the Carlyle Group have quietly become some of the most powerful companies in the world. They own our hospitals, our nurseries, our schools, our farmland, our wind farms. Their reach stretches from formerly public utilities to the houses we rent and the food we eat. In doing so, they have reshaped capitalism in their own image – all by using debt as a weapon to produce vast returns for the companies that own and control them.

On Tuesday, November 3, we welcome acclaimed Guardian journalist Hettie O’Brien, author of The Asset Class: How Private Equity Turned Capitalism Against Itself. In the book, she takes readers on a thrilling, eye-opening investigation into this secretive wing of the finance industry, revealing how it is reshaping our everyday lives and how power and wealth now operate. She follows the money across continents and examines how a hidden group of dealmakers created a weapon of economic mass destruction that might yet blow up our financial system.

Hettie O’Brien is a lead writer and Opinion editor at the Guardian, and a regular contributor at the Guardian Long Read. She previously worked as a writer and editor at the New Statesman, and as a reporter covering the Federal Trade Commission in Washington D.C. Her work exposes how complex systems and financial arrangements are transforming our lives by telling stories about the people and places they shape.

Hani Salih is a researcher, writer, editor and curator sitting at the edge of a long list of disciplines and practices; Starting with architecture all the way over to systems and policy. Hani is interested in understanding wider contexts to social and cultural phenomena and is currently doing this through his teaching work in architecture and design education.

We play together because we are moved by objects that spin: records, film reels, disco balls… We play together because we appreciate – as one might appreciate a distance – the resemblances in what transpires from their whirling. We play together because “where there’s a will, there’s a way” with all this bric-a-brac. And we confirm what intuition has always suggested to us: the co-existence of light, shadow, sound, and silence, the collision of photons with particles of sound, evocation, contradiction, anecdote, and counterpoint. We play together because we love working in the studio, challenges, paying attention to detail or to the nuances of a sound mix, ruptures, abruptnesses, and untimely idlenesses…

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Gaëlle Rouard is a filmmaker working manually since 1992. She has developed and continues to explore various methods of processing photochemical film, in parallel with an instrumentalist approach to the 16mm projector. She is a former member of 102 Rue d’Alembert (a venue dedicated to presenting experimental music and film) and Atelier MTK (an artist-run film laboratory) in Grenoble. Her work has been widely screened internationally.

Musician, percussionist, improviser, composer, and field recordist. Trained in classical music, percussionist Lê Quan Ninh (b. 1961) has, since the early 1980s, pursued a musical practice that includes both performing contemporary music and free improvisation. He has been at the origin of groups such as La Flibuste, the Hélios Quartet, and the ]h[iatus ensemble. He is also the artistic advisor of Epicentre, Territoire de l’Écoute (Jarnages, Creuse). He is currently the president of Sonatura, an organization that unites French-speaking audio naturalists.

Samen spelen, dat doen we omdat voorwerpen die draaien ons ontroeren: platen, filmspoelen, discoballen… Samen spelen, dat doen we omdat we de verwantschap waarderen in wat uit hun gewirvel opstijgt, zoals je van een afstand kunt houden. Samen spelen, dat doen we because “where there’s a will, there’s a way”, met al die zooi waarmee we ons omringen. OVER DE KUNSTENAARS

Her sound hovers between Oklou and FKA Twigs in a place beyond time. Acting as a guide, she is currently putting the finishing touches on her debut EP, liminal, set for release soon via Great News. Rotterdam series Sounding Here and Eat Your Feelings will share the stage at WORM to connect through the worlds of food and music in a playful way. The guest artists work with Alina (Eat Your Feelings) and Christine (Sounding Here) to be inspired by sound, space, and senses. Between live music and recorded audio from past Sounding Here events (ghosts and resonances), and together we ask: what does this noise taste like?

Nina Hitz is a cellist who still enjoys the analog touch of a wooden box. For now, at least. In another life—or perhaps simply when she’s old enough—she’d like to become an electronic sound artist, a painter, an actor, or a singer. None of these things she is particularly capable of at the moment, which might be exactly the point.

Luke Deane (also known on-stage as ‘Lisa’) is a composer, educator and project leader with a passion for co-composing and interdisciplinary working methods. Luke’s background is in experimental music, and his body of work reflects this constant transformation and curiosity. He discovered his own non-binary nature through his composing process, and despite having no formal singing lessons, is considered a unique vocalist working at a professional level.

Lukas Simonis is one of the founders of WORM, Rotterdam. He organises and produces radio, concerts, cd's, performing projects and writing, sometimes as KLANGENDUM, a foundation that promotes soundart and radio-art, sometimes under the WORM-umbrella, sometimes in cooperation with others (oa. The Radia Network, Poetry International, Soundtrackcity, Vrooom, etc.) He started out as an 'unconventional' rock musician, playing in bands like Trespassers W and Dull Schicksal. In later years he turned more and more to electronic, improvised music and sound art, although he still has a weak spot for his version of rock, and he is playing with people like Nina Hitz, Ergo Phizmiz, Pierre Bastien, GW Sok, Henk Bakker, Jim Whelton, Lucinda Guy, GJ Prins and the Bohman Brothers. Other groups and projects include Coolhaven (electro performance trash), Stepmother, Vril (songs), Static Tics (electronics) and Kruk (improv perfo).

Christine Cornwell is a facilitator and musicker who loves to bring together different people to make noise, play, and create as collectively as possible. Facilitating around and between sticky subjects like accessibility, inclusion, experimental music, gender, social engagement, she is always up to something with beings who are busy being their creative selves. Current Rotterdam-grown adventures are with darkwave e-violin (Baby Gargoyle), songwriting freak-folk (Triangulation) and dark ambient improv (Ruben Kotkamp+Lucija Gregov), with occasional forays into spoken word/hip-hop as improviser (Unorthodox/Eva van Manen and as artist-in-residence at Theater Babel.

Anamaria Bagarić (dance) & Karmen Ponikvar (sound) will present their project The World Tethers
The World Tethers is a contemporary dance and live music performance by Anamaria
Bagarić, in collaboration with sound artist Karmen Ponikvar. Informed by butoh, it is a physical manifestation of the ongoing flow of thoughts and the body’s response to the world around it. With the back as its central focus, movement and sound interact to give physical form to an inner monologue. Anamaria Bagarić (1991) is an author, choreographer, and dancer in the contemporary dance field. Karmen Ponikvar (1994) is a Slovenian sound artist working at the intersection of electronic and electroacoustic music.

Mar Fu Qi (dance) & Weiyan Low (sound) will share their collaborative Grounds
Grounds merges two narratives of displacement and belonging through experimental sound
and dance performed by interdisciplinary duo Mar Fu Qi and Weiyan Low. We follow Mar’s
reflections of her journey wandering through Shaoguan, China; the birthplace she never got to truly know as she grew up in The Netherlands. Weiyan uses Feedback as an anthropic vehicle for transition and estrangement, constructing a world of oscillating soundscapes and birdsong around Mar’s field recordings. With no-input mixing, effects, and percussion, he crafts a narrative of a bird extracted from the forest making sense of its alien surroundings, its song distorts, warps as it searches for kin. Mar Fu Qi is a dancer, photographer, and performance artist. Born in Guangdong, China, and raised in the Netherlands. Weiyan Low is a visual anthropologist and sound artist based in Den Haag

The third act will be improvisation from all artists of the night and Shawn Wong who will join them with his sound presence.

Lawrence McGuire
Living in Rotterdam, Lawrence McGuire works with the presence of voice in text, symbol and sound. Most works are iterative efforts on creating a vocality by other means. He can be found collaborating with other sound poets, voice researchers, playwrights, musicians among others.

About the workshop leader
Felix Kubin is a composer, creator of radio plays, performer, media artist and curator.

A lovechild of the home recording era (he started to compose electronic 4-track music at the age of 12), his activities span futurist pop, electroacoustic and chamber orchestra music, radio art, lecture performances and writing. In 1998 he founded his own record label Gagarin Records. Over the last two decades, he has released numerous albums of different conceptual formats and played at well over hundred international contemporary music festivals. Felix Kubin likes to move between high and low culture, clubs and concert halls, as his main concern is the shifting of contexts and expectations.

About WORM Sound Studio and Radio WORM
WORM SOUND STUDIOS and the WAVEFORM RESEARCH CENTRE are internationally celebrated production spaces, part of a wider alternative network in the fields of radio art and underground music. The studio’s organisation has a wealth of DIY experience and facilities that are used by young programme makers, well-known musicians, sound artists and radio artists.

Both are part of a network of spaces in WORM, the Ultimate Playground: an ecosystem for new, deviant, vital culture: test environments for alternative art production and non-academic knowledge development.

Radio WORM existed as a series of commissioned radio art releases before developing into an online community radio platform in 2021. With a roster of several hundred regular radiomakers, the station broadcasts 6 days a week, with sorties to live festival environments including Rewire (the Hague) and Ultima (Oslo) as well as producing its own live events such as the 25 Hour Radio Relay and Delta Listening.

A People's History of Music (during times of authoritarianism)

For twelve years Eric Isaacson has been travelling with presentations that are part slideshow, part lecture, part film screening. This new one tells the story of music scenes that kept going under authoritarian rule, from Ethiopia, North Korea and Kenya to the USA and beyond. It is about how those in power try to control music, and how people slip past them: through samizdat tapes, secret messages hidden in pop songs, and DIY scenes that connect communities under pressure. Along the way you'll also see some unintentionally hilarious musical attempts by fascists and states, and hear about the uneasy relationship between New Age music and fascism.

Expect archival film, sound clips and images, and a host with a humble, comic way of digging up buried treasures and the odd stories behind them. Eric draws on his own experience of the fascist creep, but there is very little grandstanding.

Eric founded Mississippi Records in Portland, Oregon, and in twenty-three years has released over 390 records and 165 mixtapes of DIY music from around the world: punk, African guitar griots, Greek criminal underground music, deep country blues, gospel, spiritual jazz and more. For its first seventeen years the label had no website or social media and ran a cash only record shop, and it still sold over a million records.

WORM's building hosts a myriad of activities: from making analogue film, synth workshops, community singing, creative get togethers and art clubs, to daily cooking vegan meals for our visitors. Many people don't see what happens behind the scenes and who drives these initiatives.
To give them the spotlight, WORM decided to start a series of interviews with our colleagues, friends and allies. After all, without them, WORM would be half the institution it is! From these interviews and other content, WORM has made a zine - the MEGAzine - which captures WORM's spirit. Our designers Sevgi & Polina added extra fun content and wrapped it up in a classic WORM design.

We launch the MEGAzine - on WORM's expEnded love evening. Everything is highly informal and very spontaneous, so just come down and say hi, and pick up a copy!

Pak een exemplaar van onze nieuwe zine!
Binnen in WORM gebeurt van alles: van analoge films maken, synthworkshops en samen zingen tot creatieve bijeenkomsten, kunstclubs en elke dag vegan koken voor onze bezoekers.
Veel mensen zien niet wat er achter de schermen gebeurt en wie al deze initiatieven eigenlijk mogelijk maakt.
Daarom zetten we deze mensen nu in de spotlight. WORM is begonnen met een serie interviews met onze collega’s, vrienden en bondgenoten. Want zonder hen zou WORM niet de plek zijn die het nu is!

Uit deze interviews en andere verhalen heeft WORM een zine gemaakt: de MEGAzine. Een zine die de sfeer en energie van WORM neerzet. Onze designers Sevgi & Polina hebben er nog wat leuks aan toegevoegd en geven het een echte WORM-look.

We brengen de MEGAzine tijdens de expEnded love uit. Het wordt lekker informeel en spontaan, dus kom gewoon langs, zeg hallo en pak tijdens Kunstavond een exemplaar van de zine mee!
