Jacco Weener – Hull 2017
Jacco Weener is a performance artist working with sound. Leader of the notorious Dutch underground rock band Gul Night Out, Jacco has recently turned his hand to what he describes as “existential historical cabaret”. For Hull 2017 Jacco will make work “on-the-spot”, using the role of Christianity and the Church in the lives (and deaths) of sailors, and those who are in any way affected by the tides of the sea. Expect a “visual history of the triple trawler tragedy of 1968” too.
“I will collaborate with local churches and their parishioners. And the local Maritime Museum, as well as the local population. Hopefully it will bring a clear picture of the perception of life and death on the open sea. During the first days of my stay I will do the research. On the last two days (with an emphasis on the Sunday) I will present the result.”
