Yugofuturism #5: Gillespie (KS), FLOWERS (NL), Combo Qasam (NL)
Gillespie are known as the alternative rock trailblazers in the independent scene in Prishtina, Kosovo. They’ve released three LPs and one EP since 2005 and performed all around the Western Balkans, Germany and Austria. In September 2017 they released the album ‘Diku, Dikur…’ (Somewhere, Sometime); one which saw the return of original singer Blerta Zabërgja. Gillespie is active in the wider Balkans regional scene and heavily involved in human rights projects and social development.
Stoner rock is brought back to its embryonic state by this exciting Amsterdam duo, who confidently push the medium’s primeval characteristics towards as yet unmapped places. Within the limited instrumentation the dynamics are stretched to the max: from doom-laden noise onslaughts to gloomy, forlorn minimalism. This band is relatively young but understands that, in order to keep raising the stakes, restraint and suspense are just as useful as crude juggernaut-like power. Their debut EP is in April.
A mysterious new project coming out of Utrecht, playing energetic, psychotic and groovy Massabu Evening Entertainment.
