Performance Lab Series #2
Performance Lab, Workshop Series Rotterdam presents a day long workshop with Mavi Veloso in UBIK Theater WORM,
on Saturday 26th October, 11:00 – 17:00.
Mavi Veloso is a brazilian transdisciplinary artist. With background in Visual arts, Theater and Contemporary dance she works as visual artist, dancer, actress, performance artist, singer and songwriter. Her creative process discusses gender, identity and sexuality appropriating fashion, queer, trans and drag queen elements.
Experimentation on voice, music and performance appropriating gender, identity and voice transition practices, feminization and or masculinization, are techniques Mavi Veloso uses to create performance works, these are “creations
charged with criticism against traditional standards regimes. Mavi Veloso approves the differences and exposes varied sexualities that can oscillate, transmute and refuse a stable definition.” (Tales Fray performatus.net)
In 2009 she obtained a BA in Visual Arts at the State University of Londrina and was co-founder of artist collective MANADA. Around this time she created her first performance-art work with Estela Thiemy, Bubble was a proposition to
experience a collective body, which developed and unfolded in other propositions with the collective MANADA. In 2011 she moved to São Paulo where she participated in the collective COMO clube, an artist platform for performance research. She attended the Post-Master school at A.PASS (Advanced Performance and Scenography Studies) in Brussels, Belgium, from 2014 to 2016. During this time she started her Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) of the maleto-female (MTF) transition. Mavi Veloso graduated from the Master of Voice at the Sandberg Instituut in 2018.
