Pantropical: Pantropical: Lechuga Zafiro, Siete Catorce, Panda Lassow, Chris Baas, Blondewednesday
Pantropical continues to probe Latin America’s outer realms for more warped and exciting rhythms and bass, highlighted by sets from Lechuga Zafiro and Siete Catorce. With their highly addictive music, these masters straddle the line between exploratory, ritualistic club culture and detailed sound design.
Lecvhuga Zafiro (UY | NAAFI)
Rising Uruguayan producer Lechuga Zafiro (Pablo de Vargas) is influenced by Afro-Uruguayan Candombe drum music, Mexican 3bal, Angolan Kuduro, but also field recordings and sound design. He first caught the attention with ‘Sapo de Manga’, released in 2013 on Matias Aguayo’s Cómeme label. His DJ sets are playful, intricate and energetic, moving from Baile Funk to upbeat bass music to his own tracks. He is part of a thriving South American network that extends from Argentina’s Hiedrah Club de Baile, Mexico’s Club Viral, and NAAFI, to Brazil’s Pininga.
Siete Catorce (MX | Subreal)
Marco Gutierrez grew up between living in Mexicali and Oakland. His music as Siete Catorce reflects the urban sounds of California and the northern Mexican frontier town, flipping between traditional influences and contemporary electronic music, and harbouring the effects of the socio-economic and political situation of the region – a unique mesh of tropical rhythms and complex drum patterns, often characterised by disquieting tones and ominous atmospherics. Now based in Mexico City, Marco has meanwhile released music through Enchufada, NAAFI and Ruidosón. Recently he launched the Subreal label, together with Amazondotcom.

Panda Lassow (DE/NL | Pantropical)
Panda wears many different hats. Next to being an excellent producer & vinyl-only DJ, she also runs Anus records and is a Red Light Radio host. Panda’s recent ‘Trora’ release contains quality interpretations of Gqom and Kuduro mixed with musical roots like techno, rave, juke and footwork.
Chris Baas (NL | Pantropical)
Master of versatilty Chris has shared stages with artists and collectives such as Mdou Moctar, DJ Tetris, Gaye Su Akyol, Ms Nina, Senyawa, Ma3azef and many others. He also hosts Pantropical’s radioshows.
Blondewednesday can be found wandering around Roffa’s club world in support of events, artists and initiatives. She’s developing a penchant for pantropicalisms as well, so we’re eager to hear her debut under our flag.
