PANTROPICAL: MABOKU + RIPLEY + BONI + PANDA LASSOW + NADIA RODRIGUES
PANTROPICAL brought Nigga Fox, Marfox, Lilocox, Firmeza, and Kolt; now we’re proudly bringing the next Príncipe Discos wizard representing the flourishing Lisbon scene: Maboku! He will be flanked by veteran DJ Ripley from NYC and supported by local stalwarts Panda Lassow, Boni, and Nadia Rodrigues. Dancefloor killers to celebrate the slow but steady erosion of the cultural divide!
MABOKU (AO/PT) | Príncipe discos)
Maboku is a favorite at the legendary ‘Noite Príncipe’ at Musicbox in Lisbon, as well as a prime mover in the African club circuit in the Greater Lisbon area. The Angolan-born Lisbon resident was part of the influential PDDG crew (Piquenos DJs do Guetto) who had their debut 12” released on Príncipe in 2013. Maboku also formed the production duo CDM together with Lilocox, setting out to create a new futuristic killer sound for their neighborhood parties.
RIPLEY (US | dutty artz)
Ripley (New York) has been slaying dancefloors since ’96 with her adventurous take on global street bass. London, Mexico City, Sydney, Chicago, Helsinki, Kingston, Toronto, Budapest, San Francisco, Belgrade, Austin, Berlin, Copenhagen, and many more cities have hosted her. Alongside informing dance culture, she is also a professor of communication & media studies, ethnographer, public speaker, writer, organizer and activist.
DJ BONI (AO)
With this being his third Pantropical appearance, Boni is becoming one of our resident DJ’s. He is renowned in and around the Afro club scene of Rotterdam, and held his own against Nigga Fox at an earlier edition. Expect another Upbeat set from him!
PANDA LASSOW (DE)
Vinyl-only DJ / producer Panda Lassow swapped Dresden for Rotterdam around 2009. She is a radio maker, Beatmakers Union member, label boss of the daring Anus records, but most of all an excellent DJ. Panda will be doing some super tight tropical bass mixing, with juke/footwork and future funk thrown in for good measure.
NADIA RODRIGUES (CV)
Cape Verdean newcomer who has been playing in the Rotterdam Afro scene for five years. We’re excited to have her make her Pantropical debut. Her playful style switches back and forth between kuduro, azonto, baile funk, soukous, funana, and afro house.
