PANTROPICAL: GAYE SU AKYOL (TR) + ANADOLU EKSPRES DJ’s

Mesmerizing psych pop echoing Turkey's past and present
20:30
WORM

Pantropical is totally “turkopsyched” [sic] to host a live performance by the mighty, enigmatic Gaye Su Akyol & band. We have no doubt that this Sunday evening in WORM’s Avantgardistic State will be one to remember! The band will headline, ably supported by the enlightened Anatolian and Middle Eastern grooves; courtesy of Anadolu Ekspres residents, Haylayf and Klapsalon.

GAYE SU AKYOL (tr)
Gaye Su Akyol’s music is deeply rooted in Turkish culture but also explores a seductive passion lying underneath, balancing both bittersweet traditional and modern elements. The singer from Istanbul combines psychedelic melodies with twangy, sultry guitars and strong rhythmic accompaniment. Inspired by classic songs she heard on Turkish radio and television as a child, she has shaped her own rock-infused, personal style and sound. Echoing both Turkey’s faded past and dramatic present, Gaye Su Akyol has become an important part of the new Turkish underground music scene. With the band Bubituzak she will perform the intoxicating, cinematic sounds of her newest, highly acclaimed album, ‘Hologram Ĭmparatorluğu’ as well as many other gems.

DJ HAYLAYF & DJ KLAPSALON (nl/tr/fr | anadolu ekspres)

Haylayf & Klapsalon are the two abi’s behind the Turko-Dutch event series Anadolu Ekspres. Combining rare vinyl, weird cassettes and broken mp3-rips, their sound ranges from Turkish psych-rock to Iranian groove, Anatolian disco-folk, 90s Turko house and lost Halay tracks. Feverish, excellent stuff to dance to!
