Minami Deutsch (JP)+ Camera Japan Preview

Motorik grooves hot from Tokyo + Camera Japan film pick from Go Shibata

Minami Deutsch
Minami Deutsch is a Krautrock band from Tokyo. Formed by Kyotaro Miula in 2014, they released their first record through the English cult label Cardinal Fuzz Records and (as a cassette/digital-download combination) through Tokyo-based label Guruguru Brain in September 2015. They have also released a 7″ through Swedish label Höga Nord Rekords. At times dreamy and evocative and at others electrifying in its energy, their music is essential listening for lovers of ’70s motorik in the vein of Neu!, Harmonia, and Kraftwerk.

Camera Japan – ‘Gui aiueo:S –  A stone from another mountain to polish your own stone.’ (Go Shibata).
Like previous years, WORM hosts a multidisciplinary Camera Japan evening. Continuing this night’s “rockist” theme, Camera Japan present a film about another Japanese rock band, Gui aiueo:S. The band members made the film using film-making tools in the way they play their musical instruments. Through their journey, they experience “stones from other mountains” [sic]. They also meet a number of idiosyncratic people who tell them stories of an unseen, unfathomable world. Everything is filmed in a documentary style, and subsequently edited into an experimental road movie that tells a fictional story. Directed by Go Shibata (‘Doman Seman’, etc). Camera Japan takes place between 21 and 24 September in LantarenVenster
