Film Special: Peter Burr (US)
Peter Burr returns for a third time to WORM! Those who saw his dazzling deconstruction of Tarkovsky’s ‘Stalker’ 5 years ago will be aware that Burr’s vision is a unique and powerful one that continues to push at the boundaries of computer animation. Those who haven’t yet seem him in action… well, hold on to your seats!
Peter Burr is an artist from Brooklyn, NY. He is a master of computer animation with a gift for creating images and environments that hover on the boundary between abstraction and figuration. In recent years, Burr has devoted himself to exploring the concept of an endlessly mutating labyrinth. His practice often engages with tools of the video game industry in the form of immersive cinematic artworks. These pieces have been presented internationally by various institutions including Documenta 14, Athens; MoMA PS1, New York; and The Barbican Centre, London.
Previously Burr worked under the alias Hooliganship and founded the video label Cartune Xprez through which he produced hundreds of live multimedia exhibitions and touring programmes, showcasing a multi-generational group of artists at the forefront of experimental animation.
“A mix of intricate patterns that vibrate, flicker, and hypnotize. Viewing Burrs work feels like entering into a dark, digital cave.” Alex Ginsberg, Electric Objects
