DUDS (Maternal Voice, UK) + THE ASSES (NL)
Hailing from Manchester DUDS are a tight, self-contained four-piece who combine sharp bursts of rhythmical energy with intelligent musicianship. Their lyrics comment on the human condition and arbitrary, sometimes strange scenarios or themes. The band has somehow managed to knock out three EPs in a year; “NLP” and “Unfit for Work” and lastly, “Wet Reduction”, which was recorded at Manchester’s celebrated Kraak Gallery. Stylistically, think James Chance and Beefheart, with a dash of post-punk thrown in.
The Asses are the latest in a long line of rowdy Rotterdam bands; based round brothers Aswin and Rowan van As, they promise to “go wild in the wild.”
