COMMON EIDER KING EIDER (USA) + DUCHAMP (IT) + NIELS VAN HEERTUM (BE)
The Avantgardistic State sees a drone oriented evening!
COMMON EIDER KING EIDER (US, Cold Spring, Black Horizons)
Common Eider King Eider is an evolving art and music collaboration between Rob Fisk (Badgerlore, Six Organs of Admittance/Hexadic collaborator), Vicky Fong, Andee Connors (A Minor Forest), Andrew Weathers and Blaine Todd. A potent mix of blackened ambience, drone and silence incorporating viola, vast chorale arrangements, and field recordings. Often terrifying in its sparseness, Common Eider… see their music as “the sound of light nullified and at the same time a celebration of the power and beauty of the sun.”
As with a lot of Fisks work (Badgerlore, Deerhoof) theres the feeling of the music summoning up vast untamed tracts of wilderness, the unfathomable deep of the lakes or endless forests, or the sheer violence of nature that can catch one completely unawares – Incendiary
DU CHAMP (IT/DE, Boring Machines, Idiosyncratics)
DuChamp is an Italian scientist, musician and curator based in Berlin religiously devoted to drone. Drone is related to a precise childhood memory: the sound of the hair dryer, which her mother used to fix her hair. That was the sound of care, bliss, and infinite love. She plays different instruments such as accordion and baritone guitar, which she stratifies using loops and delays. DuChamp works with Will Gresson in Fausto Maijstral (La Station Radar), plays baritone guitar in The Roman Catholics (with Andi Stecher) and in the female no-wave trio, Xantene. Shes also one half of the Berlin tape label Kitchen Leg records and (with Alice Cannavà) co-curator of Occultofest.
Niels started to play the euphonium when he was 8. After having been active in the jazz circuit for a few years, he started studying at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He studied there under John Ruocco, Stephane Galland, Jeroen van Herzeele and Kris Defoort among others.
