VACANCY: BUSINESS DIRECTOR

Ruim 20 jaar geleden werd WORM opgericht als een podium voor alternatieve muziek en een filmstudio in Rotterdam-Delfshaven. Inmiddels is de stichting een gevestigd kunstinstituut voor experimentele muziek, concerten, filmclubs en filmstudio’s, een galerie, een kroeg, een podium, een opnamestudio en een expositieruimte gevestigd midden in het centrum omringd door het levendige Rotterdamse nachtleven. De organisatie bestaat uit meer dan 80 mensen: vast personeel, oproepkrachten, vrijwilligers en artists in residence.

WAT BIEDEN WIJ?
WORM representeert actuele culturele ontwikkelingen in Rotterdam en verbindt dit aan wat er in de rest van de wereld gebeurt. Het is de ultieme testomgeving voor alternatieve kunstproductie, experimentele levensvormen en kennis en talentontwikkeling. Het is een netwerkorganisatie op het snijvlak van (populaire) cultuur en (podium)kunsten, gevoed door de interesse in de inspirerende, mooie, urgente, vitale, rauwe, weerbarstige en/of maffe shit waar onze medemens mee op de proppen komt. Het is een ruimte waar chaos niet als een probleem wordt gezien, maar als voedingsbodem om een creatieve thuishaven te zijn voor mensen die zich in het reguliere culturele circuit ontheemd voelen.

We bieden een jaarcontract voor 28 tot 32 uur per week met zicht op een aanstelling voor onbepaalde tijd en een salaris conform de CAO NPF. Over 20 years ago, WORM was founded as a stage for alternative music and a film studio in Rotterdam-Delfshaven. Now the foundation is an established arts institute for experimental music, concerts, film clubs and film studios, a gallery, a pub, a stage, a recording studio and an exhibition space located right in the center surrounded by Rotterdam’s lively nightlife. The organization consists of more than 80 people: permanent staff, on-call workers, volunteers and artists in residence.

WORM will be led by an interim director until the beginning of 2024 and will then opt for a two-man management consisting of an artistic and a business director.

ORGANISATION AND FOUNDATION
WORM’s staff share a great passion for their work, are loyal, committed and motivated. The organization values optimal inclusion and social safety. It aims to represent the diverse population of the city of Rotterdam in its programming, staff, partners and audiences. Its way of working, in which programs are created dialogically with partners, ensures diversity.

WORM has been part of the National Cultural Basic Infrastructure (BIS) for development institutions since 2021. In addition, WORM is financed by the City of Rotterdam and receives contributions from various funds.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES               

Together with the artistic director, the business director is charged with conducting the general and integral management of WORM based on the multi-year vision set by the Supervisory Board. In addition to the shared final responsibility, the business director has his or her own areas of attention and responsibilities:

• ultimately responsible for sound financial management;
• draws up a (multi-year) policy plan with accompanying budget, draws up the annual accounts/annual report annually;
• realizes the development of a strategic business and policy plan for the future, taking into account artistic, social, political, administrative and demographic developments on a local, national and international level; ensures good employment practices including HRM policy and implementation of the fair practice codes ensures constructive cooperation with the works council;
• maintains the external network with attention to the (inter)national cultural sector, funds, (local) government, social institutions and educational institutions;
• promotes inclusion and ensures a socially safe working and consultation climate
• provides (coaching) leadership to both permanent and temporary staff and volunteers;
• stimulates cohesion and cooperation between all departments and ensures efficient and clear internal communication about working methods and processes and a professional approach culture.

PROFILE SECTION
Knowledge and experience we are looking for in our new business director:

• familiarity and strong affinity with WORM’s vision and style of cultural expression with a connecting or complementary network;
• knowledge and experience as a strategic and business leader/director in a complex organization in preferably the cultural sector;
• financial knowledge and business acumen;
• feeling for political-administrative relations;
• excellent knowledge of (inter)national and local policy and culture, as well as fundraising and financial resources;
• written and oral fluency in Dutch and English.

WORM represents current cultural developments in Rotterdam and connects this to what is happening in the rest of the world. It is the ultimate testing environment for alternative art production, experimental forms of life, and knowledge and talent development. It is a networking organization at the intersection of (popular) culture and (performing) arts, fueled by an interest in the inspiring, beautiful, urgent, vital, raw, unruly and/or wacky shit our fellow man comes up with. It is a space where chaos is not seen as a problem, but as a breeding ground to be a creative home for people who feel displaced in the mainstream cultural scene.

We offer a one-year contract for 28 to 32 hours per week with the prospect of an indefinite appointment and a salary in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement NPF.
