VACANCY: ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Ruim 20 jaar geleden werd WORM opgericht als een podium voor alternatieve muziek en een filmstudio in Rotterdam-Delfshaven. Inmiddels is de stichting een gevestigd kunstinstituut voor experimentele muziek, concerten, filmclubs en filmstudio’s, een galerie, een kroeg, een podium, een opnamestudio en een expositieruimte gevestigd midden in het centrum omringd door het levendige Rotterdamse nachtleven. De organisatie bestaat uit meer dan 80 mensen: vast personeel, oproepkrachten, vrijwilligers en artists in residence.

WORM wordt tot begin 2024 geleid door een interim-directeur en kiest aansluitend voor een tweehoofdige leiding bestaande uit een artistiek en een zakelijk directeur.

ORGANISATIE EN STICHTING
De medewerkers van WORM delen een grote passie voor het werk, zijn loyaal, betrokken en gemotiveerd. De organisatie hecht waarde aan optimale inclusie en sociale veiligheid. Het wil de divers samengestelde bevolking van de stad Rotterdam representeren in haar programmering, medewerkers, partners en publiek. De manier van werken, waarbij programma’s dialogisch met partners tot stand komen, zorgt voor diversiteit.

WORM is sinds 2021 onderdeel van de Rijks Culturele Basisinfrastructuur (BIS) voor ontwikkelingsinstellingen. Daarnaast wordt WORM gefinancierd door de gemeente Rotterdam en ontvangt WORM bijdragen van diverse fondsen.

TAAKOMSCHRIJVING EN VERANTWOORDELIJKHEDEN
De artistiek directeur wordt samen met de zakelijk directeur belast met het voeren van het algemeen en integraal bestuur van WORM op basis van de door de Raad van Toezicht vastgestelde meerjarenvisie. Naast de gedeelde eindverantwoordelijkheid heeft de artistiek directeur eigen aandachtsgebieden en verantwoordelijkheden:

• eindverantwoordelijk voor de programmering;
• stuurt en coacht de afzonderlijke programmeurs;
• ontwikkelt nieuwe concepten;
• vertegenwoordigd het artistiek profiel buiten WORM;
• onderhoudt het externe netwerk met aandacht voor de (inter)nationale culturele sector, fondsen, (lokale) overheid, maatschappelijke en onderwijsinstellingen;
• creëert kansen voor kunstenaars en makers binnen en buiten bestaande structuren;
• bevordert inclusie en waakt voor een sociaal veilig werk- en overlegklimaat;
• geeft (coachend) leiding aan zowel vast als tijdelijk personeel en vrijwilligers;
• stimuleert de samenhang en samenwerking tussen alle afdelingen en zorgt voor efficiënte en duidelijke interne communicatie over werkwijzen en processen en een professionele aanspreekcultuur.

PROFIEL ARTISTIEK DIRECTEUR
Kennis en ervaring die we graag vinden bij onze nieuwe artistiek directeur:

• bekendheid en sterke affiniteit met de visie en stijl van cultuuruitingen van WORM met een aansluitend of aanvullend netwerk;
• netwerkvaardigheid en aantoonbare ervaring met het succesvol profileren van een organisatie;
• een aantal jaren ervaring als bestuurder of eindverantwoordelijk directeur;
• kennis van de kansen en uitdagingen van de cultuursector en podiumkunsten
• is schriftelijk en mondeling vloeiend in Nederlandse en Engels taal.

Over 20 years ago, WORM was founded as a stage for alternative music and a film studio in Rotterdam-Delfshaven. Now the foundation is an established arts institute for experimental music, concerts, film clubs and film studios, a gallery, a pub, a stage, a recording studio and an exhibition space located right in the center surrounded by Rotterdam’s lively nightlife. The organization consists of more than 80 people: permanent staff, on-call workers, volunteers and artists in residence.

WORM will be led by an interim director until the beginning of 2024 and will then opt for a two-man management consisting of an artistic and a business director.

ORGANISATION AND FOUNDATION
WORM’s staff share a great passion for their work, are loyal, committed and motivated. The organization values optimal inclusion and social safety. It aims to represent the diverse population of the city of Rotterdam in its programming, staff, partners and audiences. Its way of working, in which programs are created dialogically with partners, ensures diversity.

WORM has been part of the National Cultural Basic Infrastructure (BIS) for development institutions since 2021. In addition, WORM is financed by the City of Rotterdam and receives contributions from various funds.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Together with the business director, the artistic director will be charged with conducting the general and integral management of WORM based on the multi-year vision set by the Supervisory Board. In addition to the shared final responsibility, the artistic director has his or her own areas of attention and responsibilities:

• ultimately responsible for programming;
• directs and coaches the individual programmers;
• develops new concepts;
• represents the artistic profile outside WORM;
• maintains the external network with attention to the (inter)national cultural sector, funds, (local) government, social and educational institutions;
• creates opportunities for artists and creators within and outside existing structures;
• promotes inclusion and ensures a socially safe work and consultation climate;
• provides (coaching) leadership to both permanent and temporary staff and volunteers;
•  stimulates the cohesion and cooperation between all departments and ensures efficient and clear internal communication about working methods and processes and a professional approach culture.

PROFILE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Knowledge and experience we would like to find in our new artistic director:

• familiarity and strong affinity with WORM’s vision and style of cultural expression with a connecting or complementary network;
• networking skills and demonstrable experience in successfully profiling an organization;
• several years of experience as a director or director with final responsibility;
• knowledge of the opportunities and challenges of the cultural sector and performing arts is fluent in writing and orally in Dutch and English.
